I was interested in your article on the expansion of Blackpool airport and the comment about how good this would be for Blackpool.

Apart from employing more staff if it expanded what other benefits are there for this area?

The people using the airport won't bring any business to the area, they merely arrive and take off.

As a local resident, I would be extremely unhappy to see the airport expand.

I live in what was a quiet area of Thornton, but our peaceful neighbourhood is frequently disturbed by jets, planes and helicopters.

In fact the jets can be heard throughout the night, often disturbing sleep.

During the day the prop 'planes can be as frequent as every three minutes.

Using the garden has lost its enjoyment and if I could move, I would, but it would mean uprooting my children from school.

Anyway, why should I move? When we bought our home ten years ago noise pollution from the airport was not a problem, now it is.

When expansion is suggested why aren't local residents consulted, after all the noise and air pollution is affecting many thousands of us?

Also, we may not be able to sell our homes if buyers realise how bad the problem with aircraft noise is.

If Blackpool is serious about its tourist trade it would stop airport expansion.

Otherwise visitors to the resort will need to be issued with ear defenders, oxygen masks and sleeping tablets.

Isn't employment a major benefit to the area?

What about the thousands of visitors each year to Blackpool from Belfast and Dublin, who travel by air, are they no benefit either?

NIMBYs can just sit in their peaceful gardens and watch the area fall into futher economic decline!
