Council finance officer bailed over £600,000 theft charges

A Blackpool Council finance officer has appeared in court charged with stealing more than £600,000 from the authority.

Cathryn Wiles, 45, of North Drive, Cleveleys, faces 24 charges of theft from the council between May 2003 and May 2008.

It is alleged that mother-of-two Wiles stole £617,000 while working for the Children and Young Persons’ Department at the town hall.

Wiles was remanded on bail by Blackpool magistrates until October 17 when proceedings to commit her for trial at Preston Crown Court will take place.
