Blackpool started the day full of high hopes for a win but, as ever, they were to be sold short of their target.

They started the game in their shells and succumbed to an early try when Chorley went across to score an unconverted try in the 4th minute.

This brought Blackpool out of their shells, or was it only a slow start, and they began to play with a determination that belied their lowly position in the league.

This paid dividends in that they applied pressure but became subject to the sucker punch when they allowed Chorley to score a penalty in the 25th minute to open up the score to 8 – 0 in their favour.

Blackpool were not to be outdone however and scored an unconverted try of their own in the 36th minute to peg the score back to 8 – 5.

This was thanks to some concerted forward pressure with Prop Dave Graham going over to score.

This was Graham’s first game for the side this season and his appearance was most welcome.

In the second half, Blackpool started as if they were well in the lead and as early as the 3rd minute scored again.

This time Leon Mason kicked a penalty to bring the scores level at 8 points each.

Chorley hit back almost immediately when they were awarded another penalty in the 12 minute which they kicked to open up the scoring again to 11 – 8.

Blackpool will be annoyed with the fact that they were giving away far to many penalties which were to have an effect on the outcome of the game.

In the 17th minute Blackpool scored again; after forward pressure again, scrum half Phil Raw picked up the ball short of the try line where Dave Graham had been stopped, and managed to get across the line to score.

Mason missed the conversion attempt but the score was now 13 – 11 in favour of the home side.

This was not to be the end of the scoring however, and with the last throw of the dice, Chorley managed to score a converted try to take the score to the final 13 – 18 in their favour.

Blackpool must be regretting this score line as they gave away far to many penalties, some of which were kicked and had a detrimental effect on the outcome of the match as far as they were concerned.
